Summer Boom: A Fresh Display Font for Polished Branding

Refreshing a Café Menu with a Cool, Consistent Typeface

Last month, I helped a local café owner redesign their seasonal menu. The goal was to create a more cohesive look that matched their beachside location and laid-back vibe. We started with layout and color, but the real game-changer was the typography. That’s when I introduced Summer Boom—a fresh, modern display font that brought the entire design together.

Summer Boom is a display font with a breezy, handcrafted feel. Its clean lines and open spacing give it a modern edge while still feeling approachable and fun. It’s not meant for body text—it shines in headlines, titles, and short phrases where you want to make a visual impact. For the café’s menu headers and drink names, it added just the right amount of personality without overwhelming the content.

Why Typography Matters for Small Business Branding

Typography is often overlooked by small business owners, but it plays a huge role in how your brand is perceived. A great font can help your materials feel more professional, consistent, and memorable. Summer Boom helped the café feel more polished and intentional—like they had a real design strategy, not just a quick refresh.

Fonts like Summer Boom are especially useful for businesses that want to stand out visually. Whether you’re printing product labels, designing thank-you cards, or updating Instagram templates, the right display font can elevate your brand presence. It helps create a visual rhythm across different materials, making your business feel more put together.

How Summer Boom Works Across Real Business Materials

After seeing how well it worked on the café menu, we decided to test Summer Boom across other customer-facing materials. It looked great on drink tags, social media posts, and even the café’s new loyalty cards. Because it’s a display font, it’s best used in short bursts—like product names on packaging, headlines on banners, or callouts in digital ads.

One thing to keep in mind is readability. Summer Boom works best at medium to large sizes, so it’s not ideal for tiny tags or long paragraphs. But for headlines and visual accents, it delivers a clean, modern look that’s easy to recognize.

Pairing Summer Boom with Supporting Fonts

Every strong brand identity needs thoughtful font pairing. Summer Boom is bold and expressive, so it pairs well with simpler, more neutral typefaces. For the café project, we used it with a clean sans serif for body text and menu descriptions. That contrast made the design feel dynamic but balanced.

Here are a few pairing ideas that work well:

  1. With a modern sans serif: Great for menus, packaging, and digital ads
  2. With a classic serif font: Adds contrast and elegance for formal branding
  3. With a script or handwritten font: Softens the look for boutique or handmade brands

Because Summer Boom is a display font, it’s best used sparingly. Think of it as the visual anchor of your design—something that draws attention without taking over the whole layout.

What to Check Before Using Summer Boom in Your Branding

Before you download and start using any font for commercial purposes, it’s important to check the licensing. Summer Boom is a commercial font, so it can be used in product packaging, branding materials, and digital downloads. Just make sure you have the correct license for your intended use—especially if you're a designer working on client projects or creating templates for sale.

Also, check what file formats and styles are included. Summer Boom typically comes in multiple weights and may include ligatures or alternate characters that can add extra flair to your design. If you're using it for international markets, verify that it supports multilingual characters.

Lastly, test the font in different contexts—print, mobile, and web—to make sure it looks good across all platforms. A font that looks great on your screen might not translate well on a small product label or a social media thumbnail.
